Marcel Leemann ©Ingo Höhn
Marcel’s dance training starts with a warm-up including floor work, release and elements of his own technique. The goal is to consciously connect the center and the periphery and to activate the muscular system. During the training, some choreographic sequences are learnt whereby the focus is on dynamics, musicality, coordination and spatial awareness.
Marcel Leemann was born in Zurich in 1969. After completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter, he started studying at the John Cranko School in Stuttgart and the School of the Hungarian State Ballet in Budapest at the year of 18. As a dancer, he worked at Semperoper Dresden, Luzerner Theater and Konzert Theater Bern. Since 2003, he has been a freelance choreographer, dancer and director, as well as a dance and theater teacher. With his company Marcel Leemann Physical Dance Theater he tours his own dance pieces in Switzerland and abroad. He has also been creating dance productions and theater plays with children and young people in collaboration with the Junge Bühne Bern for many years and has choreographed pieces in various art forms including dance, musical, opera, operetta and drama for many theaters in Switzerland and abroad – such as Luzerner Theater, Konzert Theater Bern, Theater St- Gallen, Oldenburgisches Staatstheater, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater Magdeburg and Teatro Comunale Bolzano. Marcel teaches regularly for national and international dance companies and is the artistic director of Physical Days Bern, a platform he launched for international workshops.
