At the beginning of my training I like to bring our attention and awareness to our body and to the very present moment. Among other things, I use exercises/ideas from QiGong and TaiChi. In the main part of the training I give insight into my movement language and share ideas from my own research. In my style you can see a fusion of contemporary and “urban” dance languages. As a former breaker (breakdancer), I especially like to play with floorworks (it’s not a breakdance class). Diverse and fluid/flowy transitions from standing to floor are an important part of this. What currently fascinates me is how we can use the elasticity of the
body to be efficient, supple and at the same time dynamic and powerful.
Please bring long trousers. We train with socks and barefoot.
Lucas del Rio Estévez, born in Basel in 1988, discovered dance through breaking (breakdance). After his first dance experiences at competitions, events, shows and as a dance teacher, and after studying cultural anthropology and media science, he decided to pursue dance as a career. Lucas has been dancing with the MIR Compagnie in Basel since 2014. This was followed by engagements as a freelance dancer, choreographer and assistant in various dance productions and in educational projects. Since 2019, Lucas has been concentrating on choreographic work and completed the master’s programme in choreography at the Zurich
University of the Arts in 2019-2021. His working focus is in-depth movement research and the fusion of contemporary and “urban” dance languages. Another focus is the self-study of body and mind in the fields of psychology, philosophy and spirituality. His vision is the fusion of these passions in his artistic practice.
